We’ve been busy at St. John’s this fall transforming our church for growth!

St. John’s has a new Children’s Director!
At last Sunday’s Consistory meeting last week, Consistory (our Church Board) voted to hire our candidate, who will be announcing the news to her present church this Sunday (which is why I can’t share her name publicly with our wider church until next week). So don’t miss our candidate’s VIDEO introduction at Sunday’s Annual Meeting following worship! Her first day at St. John’s will be December 1st.
God has richly blessed us with someone who shares our vision of creating the premiere faith formation program for children and families in an Open and Affirming UCC church in Columbus! Our candidate brings 27 years of early childhood education experience to us, as well as 15 years of Directing Children’s Ministries (with a Master’s in Christian Education from seminary). She has served in large (1,000 member) and multi-site churches! She has been through an Easum study before, so our candidate is thrilled to have the opportunity to join in our transformation as she shares her passion that no matter what your family looks like – every child, every parent or guardian, every teacher knows that God loves them. If you also have a heart for ministry to children and families, please take a moment to send an extra gift to St. John’s (you may also donate online) to support our new children’s ministry!

Nan and Craig have raised more than $5,400 to benefit The Largest Table!
Today we especially wish to thank Nan and Craig for graciously opening their home last Saturday afternoon for a rousing house concert to benefit The Largest Table! The upbeat band, Ville Billy Rebellion, provided the music for the event, as we enjoyed delicious food, conversation, and fellowship to support a worthy cause.
Additional donations are still rolling in, to support The Largest Table, our weekly hot meal for our homeless and marginally housed neighbors in Columbus. Did you know that this past Wednesday, we served more than 200 meals from our church kitchen? Did you also know that we ran out of food for our hungry guests, leaving over 20 people walking away with empty bellies?
Our Largest Table team does the very best they can every week – and yet the need continues to grow. Won’t you help us out with an additional gift to this vital ministry so that we have more food and resources to serve those living on the margins? And please make sure to thank our stalwart kitchen volunteers, who make sure week after week to prepare a hot meal with warm hearts, 52 weeks of the year.
St. John’s will not again host our Body & Soul fundraiser to benefit The Largest Table until 2018 (we are launching our new worship services and ministries in 2017). So please don’t miss this opportunity to financially support The Largest Table in 2016 and 2017 through a special donation to the church.

St. John’s has a new Contemporary Worship Pastor –
Welcome Pastor Dan Clark!
Two weeks ago we gathered for our first ever Contemporary Worship Service at St. John’s! The service featured a preview of our new St. John’s contemporary worship band, with Pastor Dan on acoustic guitar and vocals, joined by professional musicians and vocalists. We also wish to thank Shawn our sound engineer, and Greg our AV tech. Pastor Dan led us on a journey into contemporary music and new ways of reaching people for Christ through music, after which our congregation voted to call Pastor Dan as our first Contemporary Worship Pastor. Pastor Dan’s first day at St. John’s will be November 1.
Starting on December 11th St. John’s will move to our new worship format, in accordance with Dr. Easum’s recommendations for St. John’s church growth, and in consultation with our new contemporary worship pastor:
9:00am Traditional Worship Service
10:00am Fellowship and Christian Education Hour
11:00am Contemporary Worship Service
Our 12 noon Wednesday worship time will remain the same, followed by The Largest Table community meal on Wednesdays.
Our December 11th Contemporary Worship Service will be the beginning of our new era of contemporary worship and ministry offerings at St. John’s. We will then spend several months working together as clergy, leadership, congregation, musicians – and as people of God – to prepare for the full launch of our contemporary programming during Holy Week 2017, on time and on target with Dr. Easum’s recommendations. Please generously support the future of St. John’s with an extra gift this month to fund our new contemporary music programming!

St. John’s will soon have a new digital sound system in the sanctuary!
Today we also wish to thank Shawn, our new volunteer contemporary sound engineer, for generously offering to donate a new digital sound console and stage box to our church! I was astounded that someone so new to our faith community would step out so completely in faith and trust to make this needed gift to help us grow as a church as we launch the contemporary worship service! Shawn not only offered to donate the new digital sound system to St. John’s, he will also install and configure the new system for us, to our specifications. Please take some time this winter to get to know Shawn and his family, and thank them for their faith in God, and their trust in our faith community.

St. John’s has a new marketing team!
This week we met with our new marketing team, Krile Communications and Peebles Creative Group, who will help us implement Dr. Easum’s substantial marketing recommendations for our church transformation and growth process. We will have more information to share in the months to come about St. John’s new marketing plan! Please keep our new marketing team in your prayers, as they help us spread the Good News of the Gospel, and the light of Christ’s love, throughout the city of Columbus!
Here at St. John’s, we are energized and excited as we continue to live into the vision of God’s future for our church. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about this spiritual journey of a lifetime on Sunday.
We look forward to seeing you!
In faith, hope, and love,
