This Sunday, September 11, is RALLY DAY! Please join us for a special celebration during worship as we kick off the start of our 2016-2017 Christian Education year. We have wonderful opportunities each year for children of all ages, youth, and adults to explore their faith. Please don’t miss this opportunity to meet our Christian education teachers and volunteers, as they find new ways to make our Christian faith relevant and meaningful in an ever-challenging and ever-changing world.
In addition, please REMIND YOUR CHILDREN AND YOUTH TO BRING THEIR BACKPACKS, lunch boxes, and school supplies to church on Sunday for our ANNUAL BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS! Pastor Rachael has a wonderful time planned to lift up our children and youth as they journey through another school year. May each one of us pray every day for our students that they may have wisdom to learn, patience in their studies, courage to face new things, and compassion for all they meet as they seek to let their light shine each and every day.
Sunday is the poignant “9/11” Anniversary in our country, and it is a privilege to gather together as people of faith in our loving community on this special day to honor those whose lives were lost on that fateful day, to pray for all those impacted by 9/11, and to continue to work for justice and peace in our world. As Christians, we are called to bear witness to pain and suffering, as we are also called to shine the light of restoration and renewal into a new future. We are in the midst of renewal and transformation at St. John’s, and we hope you will join us as we worship into our new future! My sermon, based on Luke 15:1-10, is called God’s Search Party, and we are rejoicing in all that we have found again at St. John’s!
Our annual concert season will kick off with a jazzy “bang” next Friday night, September 16, at 7pm in the church sanctuary with the Dwight Lennox Trio. This concert makes a great “date night” for all, and it is free and open to the public (free will offering). There is free parking available at the Franklin County Parking Garage – which is a change from years past (parking attendants will be directing traffic). Free coffee from Stauf’s, along with St John’s legendary baked goods, are another wonderful feature of our annual Java & Jazz Concert – we hope you can join us!
In faith, hope, and love,
